My Approach
Building Resilience
Aligning with trauma-based theories, I believe your presenting problems (i.e. depression, anxiety, OCD, addiction, etc.) are learned behaviors adopted to help deal with the hardships of life. I also believe they can be your greatest teachers, giving you the deepest understanding of yourself, your experiences, your strengths, your fears, and most importantly, your needs. Incorporating the Internal Family Systems theory, we will tap into your most compassionate and curious self, allowing you to explore these behaviors in a manner that is free from judgment, guilt, and shame. We will find more effective techniques for navigating distressful experiences, in turn strengthening your inner resilience for the next phase of our work.
Healing Trauma
Trauma is any event that overwhelms or dysregulates our nervous system. Both our brain and body are equipped to process, learn, and adapt to life events in order to ensure survival. When an event is too complex or painful, the brain and body cannot process or store the memory correctly. From that moment, our brain and body carry painful beliefs about the event, our selves, and/or the world, which can cause us physical, emotional, and mental anguish on a regular basis. In a safe, comforting, and controlled space, I will help you gain access to the unresolved trauma and activate the brain’s natural healing process until it is no longer overwhelming to your mind and body, using a specific psychotherapy model known as Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing therapy. In addition to EMDR, I am trained in several other trauma-informed therapy models. Together, we will determine the best model for you and your goals.
EMDR Therapy
EMDR is one of the most effective and researched therapy models used today to treat PTSD, trauma-related issues, depression, anxiety, and much more by accessing the brain’s natural healing process.
